PS 22 Chorus Strikes a Chord
Tuesday, April 7, 2009 at 10:01AM If you like music you'll like this. If you like kids you'll like this. If you think that music and kids together doesn't do much for you (bringing up memories of fluffy and dissonant holiday concerts and scree scraw on the violin) then I beg you to think again. Here we have a group of youngsters at the PS22 in Staten Island, NY. The fifth grade chorus, along with their very capable and enthusiastic director Gregg Breinberg has interpereted the works of Suzanne Vega, Tori Amos, Bjork, the Sundays, The Velvet Underground, Coldplay and so many more challenging and intensely beautiful musical arrangements. He also offers a venue for student songwriting, where choir members may have their original pieces performed.
This is not to be missed. These kids are (and mind you they only get one school year in this speical chorus) amazing, and when you watch the video performances you can see the depth of love and musicality they express is well beyond the common conceptions of an average 10 or 11 year old's musical and emotional capacity. Congrats to all those who are involved in a truly wonderful investment in our youth, and further - to those kids who work hard to learn what they love and bravely bare their hearts in song.
If you haven't already clicked a link then just go now - visit their blog for a while and pick up what they're puttin' down!
